Visualase Thermal Therapy (VTT™) is an integrated solution for real-time monitoring and control of LITT using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI images of the treatment allow the user to monitor the progress of the therapy. Built-in control for the laser included in the workstation eliminates the need to toggle controls on multiple instruments during the treatment.

enVision ™ Workstation

Monitoring and control of the treatment is accomplished through the enVision™ Workstation. enVision is intended to retrieve, store, process, and display temporally dynamic magnetic resonance (MR) data from compatible scanners. Interactive software enables the surgeon to image the probe, tumor and surrounding brain tissue to determine the optimal treatment strategy and ablation sequence plan. Interactive software enables the surgeon to have real-time visualization of the laser firing zone, the resultant thermal treatment area and tissue that has been effectively ablated, overlaid upon real-time images of the tumor and surrounding brain.

enVisionThe software is capable of analyzing either temporal changes in image intensity as is useful in, for example, dynamic contrast enhancement studies, or temporal changes in complex phase of image data as is useful, for example, in phase contrast angiography or in determinations of dynamic phase changes related to temperature changes in soft tissues.

The image data may be manipulated and viewed in a number of different ways and the value of data at certain selected points may be monitored and/or displayed over time. When interpreted by a trained physician, this device provides information that may be useful in the determination or assessment of a diagnosis, intervention, or course of treatment. Patient management decisions should not be made solely on the basis of enVision analysis.

V-CLAS TipV-CLAS™

The Visualase® Cooled Laser Applicator System (V-CLAS™) safely delivers optical energy through a diffusing tip fiber optic applicator cooking the tissue from the inside out. The diffusing tip is used with a cooling catheter for circulation of cooling fluid. This increases both the safety of the treatment and increases the size of the area which can be treated.

A thin (as small as 1.6 OD mm), 360 degree firing, internally-cooled catheter laser probe is inserted directly into into the tumor, similar to biopsies performed by surgeons regularly, minimizing learning curves. The ability to fire at 360 degrees means faster and complete ablation times with no need to stop and rotate 45 degrees after each ablation.

  • Standard Cooled Applicator: 17 Ga, 5F (1.6 mm OD, 20 W max)
  • High Power Cooled Applicator: 15 Ga, 5.5F (1.8 mm OD, 30 W max)

V-CLAS uses a diffusing tip fiber optic for efficient and consistent production of laser lesions. Its features include a small and flexible design, excellent power handling capability, and multiple imaging mode compatibility, including MRI, CT and ultrasound.

The V-CLAS includes a coaxial cooling catheter which circulates fluid to both cool the diffusing fiber and remove heat from tissue adjacent to the applicator. This combination allows higher powers to be used with the applicator and allows creation of larger, safer lesions.

V-CLAS Fiber and TipThe V-CLAS family of products includes a Laser Diffusing Fiber (LDF), a Cooling Catheter System (CCS), and a Bare Tip Fiber (BTF). The Laser Diffusing Fiber (LDF) and Cooling Catheter System (CCS) are used together and indicated for use to necrotize or coagulate soft tissue through interstitial irradiation or thermal therapy in medicine and surgery in cardiovascular thoracic surgery (excluding the heart and the vessels of the pericardial sac), dermatology, ear-nose-throat surgery, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology, head and neck surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, pulmonology, radiology and urology for the wavelength range of 800nm through 1064nm.

The Bare Tip Fiber (BTF) is intended for use in vaporization, cutting, ablation and coagulation of soft tissues with or without scopes or handpieces, for contact or non- contact surgery in medicine and surgery in cardiovascular thoracic surgery (excluding the heart and the vessels of the pericardial sac), dermatology, ear-nose-throat surgery, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology, head and neck surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, pulmonology, radiology and urology for the wavelength range of 800nm through 1064nm.

The control mechanism enables the surgeon to have axial and rotational control over probe positioning, with hand controls analogous to endoscope controls. The surgeon is able to direct the laser beam to all parts of the tumor by simply rotating the probe and moving up and down.

PhoTex-15 LaserPhoTex® Laser

The PhoTex® family of diode laser sources provides a reliable high-power unit in a compact, robust, and easy to use package. A simple touch-screen interface quickly operates the laser in a number of useful modes and provides instant updates on power and energy output.

The PhoTex laser features a standard SMA-905 output coupler and is compatible with both the 400 and 600 micron core V-CLAS fibers. PhoTex is currently available at powers up to 15 Watts.

The 980 nm wavelength is strongly absorbed by water which allows the creation of large lesions in less time than other laser sources. And faster heating means sharper borders for ablation zones as well.

The PhoTex-15 Diode Laser Series is indicated for use in surgical applications requiring the ablation, vaporization, excision, incision, and coagulation of soft tissue in areas of surgery including: gastroenterology, general surgery, plastic surgery, genitourinary (urology), gynecology (GYN), neurosurgery, otolaryngology (ENT) head and neck, orthopedics, ophthalmology, pulmonology, and thoracic surgery.
